About Mathematics Department:

The Department of Mathematics at Dudhnoi College was established in 1972 and offered mathematics as a general course at the H.S. level. Currently, the Department offers undergraduate courses in Mathematics (Honours and General) with 60 seats in Honours. Today, in the 50th year of its glorious existence, the department attracts students from all parts of the Goalpara district as well as from other parts of Assam, Meghalaya, and West Bengal also. The present strength of the department in degree course classes (having major and general courses) is around 200. The department has the aim of assisting students in acquiring a conceptual understanding of the nature and structure of mathematics, its processes, and applications so that students can prepare themselves to face challenges in life. Despite its regular co-curriculum activities like welcoming freshers, farewell, and observance of Teachers’ Day, the department also regularly organizes its Departmental Seminars, Annual Parent-Teachers-Students’ Meet, Alumni Meet, Students’ Counseling sessions, and departmental educational tours and outings.

The department has a small library with books and a few magazines on mathematics, which constantly cater to the intellectual needs of the students. Books can be borrowed by the students, and there is a provision for eight to ten students for study and consultation. A desktop computer is also provided there with high-speed internet for academic purposes. A wall magazine named ‘INFINITY’ is published every year on December 22 to honor the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan. The department also has a practical laboratory with Mathematica software to do practical mathematics. Presently, the Department of Mathematics is enriched with three full-time teachers and two guest lecturers. All the faculties of the Department of Mathematics are lifetime members of the Assam Academy of Mathematics (AAM). For the improvement and encouragement of students, the department keeps an award system (cash prizes) for the students who secured marks of 80% and above in Mathematics in the T.D.C.final Examinations.
