1972, Dudhnoi College launched its Assamese Department. When the department was first established, it began with MIL (As) and Assamese Second Language (ASL). In 1976–1977, the UG Major course was first offered. With more and more students, the department is now growing stronger. Besides, in the 50th year of its glorious existence, the department is able to attract students from all parts of the Goalpara district, as well as from other parts of Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, etc. There are now about 1000 students enrolled in the department's Higher Secondary, Degree Classes.. The department's goal is to help students at all academic levels develop a thorough conceptual understanding of the nature and fundamental organisation of the fields of Assamese literature, culture, and linguistics, as well as their processes and applications, so that students can get ready for new challenges in life. There are roughly 300 valuable books in the Department of Assamese's departmental library, which also has some research materials in the domains of linguistics, culture, and literature. The library is used to serve the purpose of ready –reference for the teachers and students of the department. Books are also issued to students of major and general courses at their request. There are currently four full-time teachers and three guest lecturers at the Department of Assamese. The department regularly organises its departmental seminars, annual parent-teachers-students' meet, students' counselling sessions, publishes its wall magazine, and arranges departmental educational tours and outings in addition to its regular co-curricular activities like welcoming new students, bidding them farewell, and celebrating Teachers' Day.
