The department of Political Science is one of the oldest departments of Dudhnoi College. It was established at the time of the inception of the college in 1972. At the time of establishment of the department, it has been started with Higher Secondary course. Now, the department is accelerating its strength having more and more students every year. Presently, the department offers Higher Secondary course and undergraduate courses in Political Science (Both Honours and Regular) along with one certificate course in Human Rights. Today in the 50th years of its glorious existence, the department is able to attract students from all the parts of Goalpara district as well as from other parts of Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal etc. The department has an aim to assist all levels of students in acquiring a researchfull, conceptual understanding of the nature and basic structure of and applications of the subject so that students can prepare themselves how to face new challenges in life. In addition to regular classes, the students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities like debates, quizzes, and other sports and seminars to develop and hone their skills and enhance their personalities. Most of the alumni of this department are successful in their life by choosing various professions. Some are successful civil servants, some are doing clerical jobs, some are in defence services, some are successful businessman and some others are engaged in the teaching profession. Alumni of the Department also help and assist the Department wholeheartedly whenever assistance is sought.
In spite of its regular co-curriculum activities like Freshman Social, Farewell, Teachers’ Day celebration; the Political Science department of Dudhnoi College regularly organises departmental seminars, Students’ Mentoring Session, Annual Parent-Teachers-Students Meet, Alumni Meet etc. The department also observes national and international commemorative days/events like Republic Day, Independence Day, Constitution Day, United Nations Day, International Human Rights Day etc. with great enthusiasm to inculcate the values of communal harmony, tolerance, inclusiveness, the feeling of nationalism and patriotism and mutual respect for each other. Every year, the Political Science department of Dudhnoi College arranges for educational tour for the students. The department has a wall magazine titled “POLITICA”. The Department has also a departmental library having more than 300 books relevant to the prescribed syllabi of the H.S. and B.A. programs, both in English and in Assamese along with a computer with internet facility. The library is used to serve the purpose of ready –reference for the teachers and students of the department. Books are also issued to students of major and general courses at their request. For the improvement and encouragement of students, the department keep award system (cash prizes) to the students who secures marks 80% and above in Political science in T.D.C. final Examinations
The Department of Political Science is enriched with two sanctioned teachers and four guest lectures.
